Portfolio

My name is Jacob Rose, and I consider myself a creator and designer for personalized and practical solutions. I made this website to show some of my projects, including many that use 3D printing and 3D design. I bought my first 3D printer in 8th grade, and since then I have created customized products to sell, used 3D printing in science competitions, and used 3D printing in my independent research. I love everything about the design process, and have been able to use these skills at UNC in two clubs in which I hold executive leadership positions. I have highlighted some of my favorite projects below.

Independent Research

Assayed a composite temperature-sensitive, variable density, biodegradable, and bioactive 3d printer filament for use in patient- specific bone reconstructive implants. Showed successful control of physical properties with adjustment of printing temperature.

Carolina Adapts Toys for Children (CATCH)

As Chief Technical Officer, I developed a completely 3D printed and open-source accessible button design. We use this new button design for all of our current accessible toys that we donate to centers around the triangle.

Eagle Project

For my Eagle Project, I combined my passion for 3D printing with my passion for helping those with special needs. I led a team of middle school students in the design of 3D printable sensory fidgets and the creation of a sensory room at my local middle school. I posted the designs and instructions for these fidgets online for any school to download and print, encouraging more students to become involved with 3D printing.

Upgrading my Personal 3D Printers

As I outgrew the restraints of my original 3D printer I bought in 8th grade, I decided to upgrade rather than buy new machines, as dual material 3D printers had not been developed that were cheap enough for me to use and worked reliably. I completely overhauled the mechanics, wiring, and firmware of the machine.

Online Business

Starting my online business at age 9 selling handmade shark tooth necklaces, I have expanded and grown the business to design and sell 3D customizable topographical maps of hiking treks and 3D printed maps of colleges.
